About 9.15PM on Thursday 20th January 2000, Rev. David Murray came out of the main door of St. Columba's and announced that the Rev. John Angus Gillies had called for all those loyal to the Free Church Consitution to carry on the Commision of Assembly at the Magdalen Chapel in the Cowgate of Edinburgh. 

A large crowd of supporters gathered outside the main door of St. Columba's, and when the doors opened and those loyal to the Free Church consitution walked out, the crowd struck up with Psalm 46, and marched down the Upper Bow, down to the Grassmarket and along the Cowgate to the Magdalen Chapel.
